The overall look and feel of the film are retro mid 80s. I used vivid palettes rather than trendy pale gothic tones. The indoor locations are spacious and constructed in 360 degrees. There aren’t any signs of technology gadgets or luxurious elements. The film takes place in summer early morning, taking into account Cyprus light conditions. The actual date of the film’s story is irrelevant.
The film contains only the absolutely necessary elements and duration to bring its messages to surface, through the use of body language, atmosphere, sound and music. Every detail was selected and placed to serve the scenario. There are no other characters than the protagonist. Adding more duration to the film doesn’t serve any purpose other than deteriorating the quality. This is the beauty and challenge of short films. They are like short jokes. You reach absolute freedom of expression through the shortest possible path. It’s amazing to think that there is nothing real in this film and there are no leftovers.
The protagonist is made of ~7K polygons (naked), modeled from scratch. He is ~30 years old and of 1.8m height. His physiognomy is generic with sufficient detail. A large portion of the film’s volume of information is carried out by the protagonist since he collects most of the viewer’s attention. He has stereoscopic vision and although he is capable of speech, there was nothing to say in the film. During the film he has 3 different hair combing styles.
He is called Thespis. Thespis was an Ancient Greek poet. He was born in the ancient city of Icarius. According to certain Ancient Greek sources and especially Aristotle, he was the first person ever to appear on stage as an actor playing a character in a play. He was often called the inventor of tragedy, and his name was recorded as the first to stage a tragedy at the Great Dionysia (c. 534 bc). In English, actors and actresses are called “Thespians”.
During the film the viewer sees twice the mountain range of “Pentadaktylos” with the unusual shape of five fingers as a fist. In the 80s, Turks selected a large flat area (425×250 meters) and painted a gigantic flag of the so called “Turkish Republic of Northen Cyprus” with the text underneath “Ne mutlu Türküm diyene” which means “It’s a pleasure to be a Turk”. The flag is illuminated during night.
